Taking a blogging break

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

I don’t even know if anyone will even notice, but I am at an extremely busy phase of my life, and I need a blogging break! This is why I never did this for the money, it’s just for fun and I can’t commit to it. I may post from time to time, but for now, between hauling Joshua back and forth to school and baseball, tap class, homeschooling Rebekah, having a two yr old who is going thru the terrible two’s, church, planning for Bible school (which is going to be at my home YIKES!) and not to mention John working 60+ hours per week right now….I think it’s time to say I NEED A BREAK! Check back though, when things slow down I may blog some.

This weeks shopping trip’s

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Do you shop at multiple stores? If not why not? I am finding that the more stores that I go to the more I save and the more food I get! It takes me about an extra thirty minutes and I figure I am saving $10.00 a week doing it, so that equals out to about $20.00/hr, is it worth it? YES!! I know I have talked to you all about my growing son and how he is eating MUCH more than I ever dreamed he would ever eat (and he is only 7?) I was almost going to increase my budget another $10.00/wk to accommodate him again, then I just decided I am going to see if I can do this without increasing it, and so far shopping at several stores instead of just Kroger and CVS is paying off big time for me. Of course I have learned never say never, so I may have to increase it again. I went to CVS, Target, Kroger and Food City, and here is what I scored and how I did it: Weigel’s:
3 Gallons of milk 2.58/gallon buy 16 gallons get one free (John gets his gas there once a week so this is not an extra trip for me as he so kindly picks it up for me:)

2 Pkgs of Ground Chuck 1.99/lb

1 Comet Bathroom cleaner 1.49 on sale for 2.19 had 1/.35 off coupon which they doubled
1 Bag of Sunchips=FREE from a facebook promo
1 Quaker Quakes .25 on sale for 1.00 had 1/.75 off coupon from a mailer
2 Kellogg’s Special K Crisp Bars (these are not worth it in my opinion, but I wanted to try them there wasn’t anything to them) 1.25 each on sale for 1.99 had 2/.75 off coupons
1 Fresh Express Salad .50 on sale for 1.50 had 1/1.00 off coupon from a mailer

Overall total $60.00 right at budget I might of went over by .20 or so, but I stayed right on budget, and I was even able to get a gift of diapers for a baby shower! I love couponing! Is that wrong? There is just something about Tuesday’s that gives me a rush when I see my savings! LOL!

Frugal Family Entertainment: Movie Night

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Our family loves to have fun, I mean come on what family doesn’t? We are finding though, as we grow in size and age, having fun can be expensive! Of course though, being the frugal family that we are, we have a few tricks up our sleeves! One family tradition that we look forward to is that on one weekend night a week (each week varies) we go to our local library and rent a movie for free, pop some popcorn and enjoy a frugal fun night at the movies:

(interesting expressions here:)
To make it more “movie like” we go down into our basement and make it as dark as we can and turn on our surround sound. So every week we have good family entertainment for around .60 for all five of us! You just can’t beat that price!
***NOTE***
The Race to Witch Mountain was clean, funny and action-packed! I love movies like this, where you can actually all sit down together and enjoy!
